This recorded 2-hour training session covers essential concepts and practices to promote cultural competence in substance use prevention and treatment for Peer Recovery services. Participants will explore the African American community, cultural values and beliefs, challenges faced by the African American community in accessing substance use services, and respectful and culturally sensitive communication to ensure trust and understanding in a therapeutic setting.

Participants will explore an introduction to several cultures and learn about the importance of cultural competence, develop self-awareness, and learn prevention and treatment considerations in culturally competent practice.
Embracing Diversity: Understanding the African American Culture and SUD-Treatment-Recovery(2 hour)

- Identify how aspects of African American history, Culture, and resettlement impact functioning, mental health, substance use, resilience, and recovery.
- Address barriers that African American people face in accessing services to support their recovery.
- Identify recommendations for working with African American youth and families.
Here is how the presentations are structured:

You must pass the Knowledge Check to obtain your Completion Certificate and CEUs. If you fail, press the Retry button to retake the Knowledge Check. You can Retry as many times as needed until you pass.
