Who We Are

The Minnesota Certification Board (MCB) is a non-profit agency dedicated to protecting the citizens of Minnesota by ensuring that certified professionals working in a wide range of professions are providing safe and competent services to the public.  The MCB is a member board of the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC).

Types of Certifications

We offer certifications for professionals in the areas of alcohol and drug counseling, co-occurring disorders, prevention, clinical supervision, peer recovery, and criminal justice. Recertification

One year after receiving your initial certification, you will need to renew your certification and pay an annual renewal fee. After that, you’ll move to a two-year recertification cycle. Learn more about keeping your credentials up-to-date!

Testing

We administer computer-based exams for all of our credentials. We also offer the Alcohol and Drug Counselor Exam for those seeking licensure as a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor. Learn more about our testing center and how to apply for an exam!
