The Minnesota Certification Board is pleased to offer Opioid Training for Peer Specialists, a free online continuing education course for peer specialists. Funding for this training is made possible through a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
The objective of the course is to provide peer specialists with information about the principals and characteristics of opioid use disorders and approaches to treatment and recovery (e.g., medication assisted treatment) so peers are informed and prepared to support the individuals they serve.
Opioid Training for Peer Specialists consists of three lessons:
Lesson One: History and Overview of the Opioid Epidemic
Lesson Two: Opioids 101 — A Brief Overview of the Types and Effects of Opioids
Lesson Three: Opioid Use Disorder Treatment and Recovery
Peer Specialists who complete the course will be awarded three Minnesota Certification Board approved continuing education units and a personalized completion certificate.
