The Minnesota Certification Board is pleased to announce the appointment of their new Executive Director, Dr. Roy Kammer. Dr. Kammer has a long history with the board, having first served as a case presentation reviewer for the board after he moved to Minnesota in 2006. He eventually joined the board of directors in 2013 and later assumed roles as Vice President, President, Treasurer, and the board’s delegate to the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium. Dr. Kammer has been a champion for several board initiatives including the addition of the Peer Recovery and Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor certifications to the portfolio of credentials offered by the board.
Dr. Kammer is a subject matter expert in professional certification and licensure. He has spent the past 14 years in higher education working as a faculty member and program director of the Alcohol and Drug Studies program at Minnesota State University, Mankato and most recently as a dean at the Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School of Addiction Studies. Prior to moving to Minnesota, he worked in the areas of alcohol, drug, and violence prevention; substance use disorder counseling; and mental health counseling at the University of South Dakota. Dr. Kammer serves the profession through numerous volunteer roles and professional memberships including the Minnesota State Epidemiological Outcomes Workgroup, the International Coalition for Addiction Studies Education (INCASE), the Minnesota Coalition for Addiction Studies Education (MNCASE), NAADAC – the Association for Addiction Professionals, and the Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy.
Board President, Cathy Harvieux, commented “Roy’s move from being a long-standing board member to Executive Leadership, positions our organization for both rapid and long-term growth.
