Computerized Exam Testing Is Now Here!

The Minnesota Certification Board, Inc. (MCB), through IC&RC, is pleased to announce that beginning with the September 2009 exam administration, MCB, the IC&RC the member board in Minnesota, will begin offering all English exams in paper and pencil as well as computer based testing (CBT). Please read through this information completely and carefully as it will outline the process to apply for CBT. We are making every effort to make this transition as smooth as possible. This option has just become available through IC&RC. We realize this is a new process for everyone, and will work with you as needed. You, the candidate, make the decision if you want to take your exam in pencil and paper format or the computer based testing (CBT). In your counselor application pack, you will be able to elect which format you wish to take the exam in. Either pencil/paper or computer based testing (CBT). The requirements are the same for both formats. Due to the increased cost for CBT with IC&RC there is additional fee for testing. If you choose CBT the additional fee is $60.

Testing days for CBT: The testing days will be the two weeks after the paper and pencil exams are administered. If you choose CBT you will have the opportunity to schedule your own date and time within those two weeks. When taking the exam in the CBT format at the MCB offices, your results will be faxed to BBHT within twenty four hours.

CBT Candidate information: On testing day candidates will be required to show a government issued photo ID and their admission letter. Candidates will have three hours to complete the AODA (LADC), CPS, CCJP, CCDP, or CCS exam. After the candidate completes the exam they will receive preliminary scores in roughly fifteen minutes. The preliminary scores will clearly state that scores are not official until they are sent out by MCB. MCB can expect to receive the official scores for paper and pencil and CBT exams shortly after the two week window from the testing corporation.

Foreign language exams: For now, all foreign language exams will only be in paper/ pencil format. The Spanish exam will be available in CBT for the December administration. All other exams will be available either in December or later as translation processes are completed.

If you have any questions or comments, please contact the MCB office at: 763-434-9787.

We are excited to be able to offer you this new option and look forward to assisting you.

Respectfully,

Bonnie J. Freeland
